None of those prices look ridiculously expensive, nor especially cheap.

But there's no indication as to the quality of the parts supplied.

There was one engine (a Toyota or Honda engine, I seem to recall ?) from the late 80s / early 90s that had, on the 'proper' oil filters, a non-return valve. So that when the engine was started, there was oil circulating from the top from the first revolution. 'Aftermarket' filters didn't have that valve, leading to lots of engine wear.

That was certainly the case with oil filters for a Pug 205. I still check for that non-return valve ...

Only ones i have an issue with.

The fuel filter on these might well have a built in heater, this heater unit can usually be transferred so you only need to buy the filter itself, however a garage might prefer to fit the whole unit as one.

Air filter seems a tad expensive, as does the pollen filter.

You can look all these parts up yourself on the ECP website or ebay for named parts, or did the garage use genuine parts which would have been more expensive.

Oil seems a rare bargain compared to what the dealer would usually overcharge, presumably a 5 litre can of the correct grade fully synthetic has been used? which would cost around that price over the counter from a typical motor factor, even if they have a huge bulk drum assuming its the correct grade then it's still a bargain price...but this is important, it must be the right grade.

The good thing is they have supplied and fitted the parts, so anything fails its their pigeon, i do not supply parts for a garage to fit, a whole can of worms should something go wrong.

Rob, most good quality aftermarket oil filters have that non return valve, there are however some makes i've learned to avoid.

The prices for work on my own 207SW HDi by my local indie, who knows what parts to fit, and gets OEM ones where necessary:

2017: Oil filter 8.25 , 10-40 semi-syn Oil 22.10 (this grade is authorised by Peugeot)

2013: Air filter 8.10 , Fuel filter 18.50 , Pollen filter 11.80

Prices of oil and filter have risen 10-15% since 2013. So yes, your prices look a bit high to me (fuel filter looks ridiculous!), but that may depend a bit on where you live - I am in Cheshire. Is NE Scotland that expensive?

Fuel filter on the 1.6 HDi is a complete unit, and is dear. All the prices are about 50% more than I would expect to pay buying them over the counter at the trade counter, but about right probably for garage fitted ones....

You haven't mentioned the labour charges!

What was the total cost of the service including labour?

Was initially charged over £400 for what we thought was a blown rear bulb on our 207sw by the Main Dealer.

Common fault is simply down to an insufficient earth return cable on the rear near side light cluster causing burnt out harness and light unit.

After four months battling we were refunded for this well known design fault .

Now it has a coolant leak that no one can find

Thanks to all for feedback.
Total service cost was £539, labour £170’ £35ph ex vat, ok with this.
1 new tyre plus anti roll bar links and bulb.
So not too bad.
Thanks again

Hi

Labour charge of £35 an hour + vat sounds very reasonable.

Sorry, I didn't realise you got other work done apart from the service and MOT. Can't pass any comment as to your total bill as I don't know what is reasonable for supplying and fitting roll bar links.

However, you seem to be pleased with the work that you got done by your indy. Having an indy you can trust is more important than the having the cheapest bill.

Just for comparison, in March my Fiesta (1.25 petrol) had a Ford Motorcraft Minor Service + MOT. Not a fair comparison as there was no fuel filter or air filter change. Prices (inc vat):

Oil Filter £7.90

Oil £38.76

Pollen Filter £19.26

Labour £78

MOT £35

Total £178.92

The price for your parts seem to compare quite well with mine (bearing in mind french cars have a reputation for expensive parts). Although my service may look quite reasonable, nothing else was done to the car. The garage didn't even take the wheels off!

(bearing in mind french cars have a reputation for expensive parts).

Do they? I've always found parts prices quite reasonable for stuff for the 306 and 307.

Oil filters were often cheaper at the Peugeot dealer than Euro Car Parts.
