Daihatsu Skywing - Transmission Drain/Fill Plug Identification - edlithgow

Gearchanges sometimes need a bit of force lately, and the oil should be changed.

I checked it when I got the car but can't remember where the plugs were.

I think this looks like the fill/level plug, about level with the middle of the driveshaft.

This is a similar style and is the lowest point so is probably the drain plug.

This look reasonable?

Car is a Daihatsu Skywing, (like a Charade) with a CB22 engine.

That seems about right. Just undo the fill plug first, I've seen a few people drain gearboxes and then find they can't get the fill plug undone.

Thanks for your reply. Good point.

I'd want to check the level first anyway, partly because I can't find the transmission oil I bought in Japan.

It should be GL3 or GL4 for this car, but I could only find GL5 in Taiwan.

If its low (doesn't seem to be leaking, but the rocker cover gasket was a while ago so there's quite a lot of oil around) I'll top it up with SAE-40 until I can fix the leak and get something closer to the right stuff.

Oops! Whatever it is, it doesn't seem to be underfilled.

Might not have been level, I suppose. Didn't use a level on it, but if anything I'd have said this was the high side.

Looks pretty clean, but it hasn't been driven for a couple of days.

There's always a spectator when you screw up.
