"2 axle goods vehicles" pay the C-band rate including car-derived vans, cars pay the lower B-band rate.

The 2-wheel drive version of the Mitsubishi L200 is classed as a LGV and subject to lower speed limits and higher toll charges - the VAT on vehicle purchase is recoverable if you're a Vat-registered business.

Only the 4-wheel drive version is classed as a car.

If there's an issue, you need to take it up with DVLA, not the Dart Crossing - it's whatever the vehicle is registered as.

The 4wd twin cabbed version will be classed as a commercial vehicle for VED purposes, even if the vehicles is classed as dual purpose as such so benefitting from car speed limits.

I never actually used any of the toll roads/bridges when i had my twin cab Hilux, however i would have had to use a lot of them to save the difference in VED between a commercial which was about £210 at the time and £450 which the emissions would have cost me had it been classed as a car, and i don't recall that ever being an option nor heard of anyone re-classifying such a vehicle to car status.

Interesting if thats now an option.

As for speed limits, out very own DVD here was kind enough to point out the legislation, to qulaify for dual purpose it had to be 4WD and a twin cab as such (though typically it wasn't spelled out quite so simply), so a 4WD single cab still didn't get car speed limits and neither would a twin cab without 4WD.

I printed out the legislation and kept a copy in the vehicle, it was quite easy to imagine a non traffic ploice officer not being fully aware of what was and wasn't allowed.

As RT rightly points out. It's what it says on the log book for vehicle type. I have to pay the LGV rate for my little van even though it's smaller than some cars.

I had a similar problem many years ago on a road tunnel in France - I think it was the Mont Blanc tunnel - I considered the car fell into a lower price band, but the tunnel authorities did not agree and got out a tape measure to prove their point. They won, I lost. (If you don't ask, you'll never get!)
