While up in Leeds the other day for other reasons went to look at a car advertised on a cerain website (with a lady friend who was interested)and on the surface it looked okay. Was told that damage was "only bumper wing and headlight" so a question, car was 2 years old, no service history being sold on a back street lot.

Had a good poke for friend, but advised against even though the price was attractive.

If it was such minor damage why would it have ended up there?

Friend called me this morning and seller had called her back and told her not to take any notice of her "silly" friend "he doesn;t know anything....

Against dealer prices for similiar cars it isn't that much cheaper

No service history means no warranty.

No evidence of damage other than what you you told.

Who repaired the damage and what garantee is being given they were done correctly.

Seller insults potential buyers friend.

Car is not much cheaper that it would be on a Kia forecourt.

Are there actually any plus points other than "it looked OK"?

How do you ensure that airbags will work in case of another accident? Very likely it was enough force to trigger the air bags to be deployed.

Airbag activation is a major reason for cars being written off. If it were not such case, the car would have been repaired by insurer instead of being written off.

I'm getting old! Of course, Airbag activation. Should have thought of that but went with my instinct. (which was to say no)

I'll second the instinct of - "Non"

How did you determine that in this case?

If the airbags had gone off then it would almost certainly have been a cat B. Airbags themselves are v expensive and only go off anyway above a certain impact threshold so you can be certain the physical damage would be significant.

As an example I slammed my car sideways into a lorry a year ago (on ice). The side airbags did not go off and thanks to super strong Saab construction (and the impact being taken on the A pillar where the car is strong) it only needed a new passenger door and wing. Nevertheless it was a cat C write off. I made a profit on the payout even after repair and painting. I'm personally convinced that insurance write offs are often some kind of scam which favours the insurer (and those who trade in such cars) and disadvantages the owner.

Can't help agreeing with Skid though. It "feels" wrong from the info given.

Since looking at the above car, Have researched (or rather "Googled) the subject and the messages are very mixed, and there were no warnings that i could see about airbag activation.

Have since found her a venga at a dealer not too far away that she likes and same year spec accident free and £1500 more with the balance of the 7 year kia warranty.

Told her Go for it!

As I said in an earlier post, the thought of airbag activation had NOT crossed my mind, But instinct prevailed.
