Car will be left for a couple of months. Not sure whether it is wise or not to disconnect battery.

I would say so. If you can, remove it and put it indoors rather than leaving it in a winter cold garage. Also make sure the car is fully hot after a decent run when you put it away.

Also pump the tyres to a higher than normal pressure to avoid flat spots forming.

If the car is garaged I would consider a the following

1.disconnect the battery and give it to a freind to charge with a suitable battery charger once every two weeks while you are away.

2.remember to SORN the car ( do it online) you will have a a refund cheque from the DVLA waiting for you when you return/ then just tax it again online its that easy now

3.remember to have your car radio security code available

Good advice. Never thought about SORN

Unless I'm mistaken, these were all band C for car tax, which (I think) is £30 per annum.

So SORNing it really is saving buttons. You don't get back the partial month that you declare SORN in, and you'll have to pay the full month when you re-tax it.

So, for example, if you SORNed it on 12th December, and re-taxed it on 12th February, your refund would run from 31st December, and, when you taxed it, the 'new' car tax would run from 1st February. So you'd only get January back, or £2.50 !

Not worth the hasssle really at that but if the tax expires while you are away SORNing the car is essential to avoid a fine.
