Can I use 205/55 R16 winter tyres on 16" rims in place of current set up - 225/40 R18 tyres on 18" alloys?

I am trying to get winter tyres for my Nissan 2010 Note diesel. Most garages tell me they can't get the size I need 185/55R16 87H.
One dealer says it would be safe to use bigger tyre Hancock 195/50/16...
