Winter tyres for an Audi A3

Can I use 205/55 R16 winter tyres on 16" rims in place of current set up - 225/40 R18 tyres on 18" alloys?

If they will fit around the brake calipers, yes. They will if the car is normal spec. They might not if it's an S3.
