Is my insurance policy invalid?
I am looking to cancel my car insurance policy as I am moving abroad. I am six months into a 12-month policy. I pay for the insurance by monthly direct debit. I have called the insurance company and they have said that to cancel my policy i will have to pay approx. £250 (the remainder of the policy). However, on looking at the details of the policy I have noticed that the car details are all correct except for the registration, which is completely wrong. I can't see how this happened because I thought the details of the car would be linked to the reg. Any way, my query is whether the policy is now void due to the fact that they have the wrong registration number?

I would guess that the insurance company will claim they had you on risk and would have been prepared to have paid out. As to the costs of cancellation, an insurance policy is a contract and I would need to see it to know whether they were right. However normally if you cancel six months in you pay the full term - particularly if it is undertaken through a credit agreement (as many are).
