What small, newer cars would you recommend for a new driver?

I have a budget of up to £7000 to purchase a used car for my 26 year old daughter who has just passed her driving test. I'm looking for a small car, no older than 2014 and which needs to be safe and reliable. Which cars would you recommend?

Cheap to run, improved interior quality and refinement over previous C1, available with retractable fabric roof, decent at motorway speeds.
Plenty of kit as standard. Quirky looks. Very reliable.
