Can you recommend an insurance company for an 18-year-old driver?

I have just bought a 2002 Ford KA for my soon-to-be 18 daughter and wonder what insurance company you could direct us to. I realise that the premiums are going to be steep but would like to mitigate the cost as far as possible. Also, the car has only one locking/ignition key. Our local Ford garage has quoted £175 for an additional key. Can you suggest where we might go for something rather cheaper?

For insurance go for one of the telematics black box based policies at the end of this directory: www.honestjohn.co.uk/useful-websites/tax-insurance.../. For the key try a branch of Timpsons in the High Street, side street or in a Shopping Mall. If no joy there, links to keys and locksmiths are in this directory: www.honestjohn.co.uk/useful-websites/specialists/. Readers report that the first two on the list give very good, very fast and very cheap service.
