An insurance company has wrongly accused me of being in an accident which has pushed up my premiums - what can I do?

In November 2012 I received a letter from AXA about an alleged incident said to involve me and my then car in which they said no report had been received from me. I responded by phone and letter stating that I had certainly not been involved as both myself and car had been in Colchester area all that day. In fact I had not motored to Scotland (Haddington area) since around the late 1990s/early 2000s and never since. I was puzzled as to why it took over two years before they contacted me on the matter.

Copies of the above letters were also sent to then insurer and previous insurer, but needless to say there was no response from any of them. This month I have changed insurer to LV for the usual reasons, and lo and behold I receive their letter saying that as I had failed to disclose of the above incident they would require an additional premium of £29.58. This has resulted in further telecoms and letters on the matter resulting in a verbal withdrawal of the extra premium. Obviously I remain on an unjustified black list and have requested their action to remedy this. What further action can I take?

Sue the incompetent insurers for libel. (That's AXA, not LV.) They have made a mistake that is financially damaging to you, so are liable for it.
