What is causing my Volkswagen Polo 1.4 16v to hesitate and 'chug' under acceleration?
I am experiencing issues with my Volkswagen Polo 1.4 16v, which manifest themselves as 'chugging' or hesitating. This initially started on acceleration only but has got steadily worse to the point where the hesitation and 'chugging' will happen on a standard motorway run. The vehicle feels like it will stop running at any time. Your thoughts much appreciated.

It could be seizing up due to bore ovalisation from dribbling injectors. This is a known problem of the 1.4 14v belt cam engine in the Polo. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/volkswagen/polo-iv-2...d
