Thanks to the DVLA for efficiently processing two V5s on behalf of my elderly relative.

I wish more people would understand that the staff at the DVLA are doing the best they can with, as you say, limited resources. I had to ask for two V5s for cars owned by an elderly relative suffering from dementia. I sent off the application forms, a copy of the Power of Attorney and the fee for two V5s. I had a very nice phone call from a lady at the DVLA who said that details for the older car (1961 Ford Pop) had been "archived" so they'd refund the fee for its V5. The V5 for the other car arrived soon after and I was able to sell that car on behalf of my relative.

Fair's fair. I'll have a go at the DVLA when they prosecute people for failing to check up that they have done their job. But people do need to understand the colossal amount of documentation the DVLA has to handle, which actually makes the percentage of errors very small.
