The clutch has gone on a used car I bought 5 months ago - do I have any rights?

I bought a Peugeot 2008 from a trader on 4/10/24 with 33,500 miles on the clock. I have only done 1200 miles since then and the clutch has gone. Am I covered under the Consumer Rights Act?

The Consumer Rights Act provides protection in respect of a vehicle that is either not as described, not fit for purpose or of insufficient quality at the time of purchase. Clutches are considered consumable parts in that eventually they will wear out and require replacement, so there is limited protection regarding this part. It is understandably frustrating that you have experienced this failure so soon after purchasing your car, and there is nothing to prevent you from making a complaint to the supplying dealer, but your chances of success are likely to be slim.
