How do I remove vermin from my car?

My car is being attacked by vermin and I would be grateful for any advice as to how to prevent it happening again. The car is parked on the drive in a rural location, where I have parked for the last 20 years but have not experienced this before.

The damaged item is a piece of foam in the top corner of the engine bay just under the scuttle. I discovered it a couple of days ago when I noticed that about a quarter of the foam piece had been chewed away and there was lots of debris just underneath. I cleaned away all the debris, but the next day more had been chewed away and there was more debris. Today the car is having its annual service so I have asked the garage to check for a nest or for other damage.

Last night I placed mousetraps under the car next to the front wheels, but no luck yet. Is there anything else that I can do?

Aside from physically taking your car apart in order to find the rodent's nest, we would suggest a thorough cleaning of the vehicle in order to remove any potential food sources, using a scent that is unpleasant for rodents such as peppermint oil, using rat tape around wiring to discourage chewing, or setting traps in the vehicle where signs of rodents have been found.
