Am I obliged to use my insurance company's body shop for road accident repairs or can I use a Mercedes-Benz approved repairers?

Unless you have a specific clause in your policy that says you have to use the repairer that your insurer chooses, you are free to select the bodyshop of your choice to carry out the repairs.
Your insurer may try to charge you an additional excess if you do not use the repairer that they choose, if this is the case you can raise a complaint with the Financial Ombudsman Service, as you have a legal right to choose your own repairer.
