Committed adultery
My needs are fairly basic: to carry two adults (5' 8" and 5' 5"), a reasonable boot for carrying medical bags, plus Tesco shopping. It needs to be reliable, but as we are within spitting distance of J24 of the M25, ordinary roads plus some occasional motorway driving is all it would be asked to do. The ability to take two adults in the back (occasionally) would be good. A lockable glove compartment. Manual gearbox. A power supply for the TomTom would be good, and would like a radio +/- CD player, split rear seat for occasional transport of big items, heated rear (and preferably front) windscreen, like the Focus. Does that provide enough info?

Well, medium-size you have worked your way down to a Focus with a
Quickclear screen. Yet, currently best buy in this class is a Czech built Hyundai i30 1.4 Comfort at a bargain £9,800 with a/c and alloys, and a 5 year warranty. Smaller, a Hyundai i20 1.2. Smaller still, a Hyundai i10 1.2 (delightful to drive). Smaller than that, the new Suzuki Alto, or forthcoming Nissan Pixo from a headline grabbing £5,995. Most tested at www.honestjohn.co.uk
