Do you need to disconnect the battery from the car to charge with a trickle charger?
I'm concerned about attaching my CTEK CT5 battery charger to my cars with the battery still connected to the car in case the charger fries the ECU. I've searched the internet and even phoned BMW directly but can't seem to get a straight answer. Before I purchase the CTEK CT5 charger, can you confirm that I don't need to disconnect the battery from the car and I can just attach the charger directly to the charging points under the bonnet in order to trickle charge the batteries on each of my cars?

With the CT5 charger you can charge either through the emergency start points or - if connecting to the battery - connect the red to the battery positive and the black will go to an earth or ground point on the body, not to the black battery terminal.
