  • fading paint 6 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I'm thinking in buying a mk3 VW golf which is blue in colour. the only problem is that the paint is a little faded. The person who is selling the car has t-cut but i can still notice fading marks. Is there any way to restore the colour or would it have to be a respray? The car is now 1- year old.
  • MTV's Pimp My Ride 26 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Anyone else ever watched this ? If not, it's like a makeover show for cars. They take someone's battered old banger and turn it into basically a drug dealers car with 18" chrome alloys, jazzy paint job and half a dozen lcd screens. Then for good measure they usually stick an impossibly loud

  • Blowing out the cobwebs. 31 May 2005 (Forum)
Is there any truth in the old motoring cliche, give the car a good thrashing and blowout the cobwebs? What i mean is say your car is only used for short journeys or it hasn't been used for a while or it's running a bit rough, drive for say 10 miles flat out and 'blow out the..

  • new car for my mum 22 Oct 2002 (Forum)
My mum's in the market for a new motor. She's not really sure what she wants, but I think she will be after a small hatchback/supermini, no more than 3 years old and with no more than around 30k on the clock. She is tempted to have a turbodiesel. What should she get?

  • Battery Life 14 Jan 2002 (Forum)
What is the life expectance of car batteries these days?, used to be 3 - 4 years but have battery manufacturers made advances. The reason I ask is that I am spending some weeks driving around Europe in the spring, my car is 4 years old (diesel), and the local tyre depot is having a battery sale
  • Warranty & its distortion of car values 31 Jul 2004 (Forum)
there are lots of cars on the market that are just about 3 years old (some a month or two younger so that the new buyer has the confidence of some warranty, some a month or two older as the owner has 'chanced it' for a short while). Therefore 3-year old prices are slightly depressed, relative to a straight line

The 3 year contract is shortly coming to an end on my 04 Honda Accord Diesel EX at 28000 miles (I live 3 miles from my ofice so comuting is not an issue) and apart from the tramlining problems (now sorted with Michelin Tyres) the car has been faultless. I want to come out of the company car system
  • Impressions we have of our cars 19 Jun 2023 (Forum)
Nobody ever gives much credit to Fords on here except perhaps for the odd old Focus and the 1.25 Fiesta.  Ford over the years have produced some really great cars both family and performance wise.  Indeed Elaine Robinson may have been conceived in the back of a FORD much
  • Any - Speedometer dial calibration 14 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Just got a new car and the speedometer dial is ONLY calibrated in MPH. I cannot remember being in any UK car less than 40 years old that did not have secondary KPH calibration inside the MPH markings as well. I thought this was a requirement in UK cars, is this an urban myth or has

  • Recommend a £750 car for my daughter. 2 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Some thoughts, folks, for a cheap (up to £750 ish) , preferably 4 or 5 doors, car for a newly single daughter with two children - 4 & 1.5 yrs old. Cheap to run, insure & tax. Use mostly taking children to school, going to work & local shopping. -- Roger. (Costa del Sol, España)
  • Diesel auto family car 14 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Can anyone recommend a good diesel auto family car 2 to 3 years old for about 10k ? We fancied the scenic & love the diesel 1.9 engine, but they only do an auto in the petrol, which was horrible. The Touran was smart & nice in the 2.0 TDi DSG but they cost a fortune. The Zafira looks a bit dull

  • Euro Car of the Year 19 Nov 2003 (Forum)
How meaingless is this? According to the London Evening Standard, Fiat have won this more times than anyone else. Says it all really...... I don't know much about the new Panda (or the old one), but last year's (?) award to the 307 was pretty daft. It's an OK car, but not the best in its class
  • Recycled cars 20 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I saw this on the letters page of today's Guardian and thought what a good subject for discussion. "If the government stopped issuing new private vehicle registrations two things would happen. One, the number of cars on the road would effectively be frozen. Two, today's worthless wrecks would
  • Nissan Sentra - Most characterless car... 1 May 2018 (Forum)
Just back from holiday. Booked a mid-range hire car and ended up with a 2-month-old Nissan Sentra. Worked perfectly and comfortable too; drove nearly 2000 USA miles in two weeks, absolutely no complaints. But the car had no character or style whatsoever. Nothing to make it interesting
