New CAT needed at only 16months old 20 May 2005 (Forum)
Just thought I'd share this with you and to see whether others have had a catalytic converter fail at a young age. My car was registered in Jan 2004 and I bought it last July as an ex-dealer show car - just been standing in the showroom etc. A couple of weeks ago, it started rattling underneath -
Pre-Registered v. Nearly New 14 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Hello Everyone Fairly soon, I plan to change my 4 year old Vectra CDX DTI. I bought it pre-registered from a car supermarket at £8000 under list and its covered 90,000 fairly trouble free miles. Though I would like a 'premium' car, my budget would only buy a car a few years old, particularly -
Audi A3 CD player 10 Jun 2004 (Forum)
. They came back and said this was normal and it was the CD player just resetting itself. This is a load of old tosh as the CD never made that noise when I purchased the car. A friend has just purchased the TDI version so I will ask what his CD player is getting up to. Should I push Audi to replace the CD -
Any water cooled engine - Is Old Coolant better or worse than water? 6 Dec 2016 (Forum)
. Of course there's no need for anti-freeze here, but I'd think there'd be a risk of long term corrosion damage. If I had an unfixable leak on a truly disposable car I might put a pinch of washing machine powder in it from time to time, but its hard for me to regard a shiny 10-year old -
Toyota Prius - Used car advice 22 Sep 2016 (Forum)
. Diesel version might be a year or two older for the money. I could get an 8 year old Prius with around 80000 miles, from what I've read they seem to go on forever and due to the way they are built wear and tear is minimal. Not the ideal motorway car but a bit more comfortable than the Yaris, and still -

hire car companies 20 Oct 2019 (Forum)
they are handing to the punters is very poor, a six year old could wash the cars better many a vulnerable person would have driven off in that car, indeed im not convinced they wont have just handed the car onto the next punter so all in all not impressed at all -

VW - Kind words for VW 7 Apr 2020 (Forum)
Neighbours daughter is a Key worker whose last car went a few weeks ago to old banger heaven, and had ordered herself a new golf, which was on its way, then at the dealership, but can't be delivered. VW have supplied a pre reg nearly new till she can get her new car. Well done VW -
2 Jul 2019 (Forum)
HJ writes "I don't recommend old cars and certainly don't want to get myself entangled in endless 'practical motoring' type enquiries that take up far too much time and generate no revenue." Fair enough, a motoring journalist deserves to receive an income for sharing his expertise -
Ford Focus Estate 2012 Titanium - Car Radio DAB 20 Jun 2019 (Forum)

My son will be leaving University this summer. He will be 22, and quite sensible (not a boy racer lol). I need recommendations for a good car to help him buy. I would like something which is possibly 3/4 years old max, about £4,000 to £4,500 at a push £5,000. Somewhere between -

N/A - 1000miles a year oil change 1 Oct 2018 (Forum)
I despair HJ Agony column today advising a OAP to get his 5yr old car oil changed every year. The oil is probably as clean as the day it went in there with this sort of use. The car obviously needs an annual MOT so feel sure that this would cover any safety contingencies for him -
Mazda 2 1.5 Sport (2011) - Heavy Tyre Wear on Mazda 2 6 Apr 2015 (Forum)
Having got through a set of original Toyo tyres in 15,000 miles my car has covered since new, is there an alternative wheel/tyre that can be fitted or will this upset the speedo etc. I hate low profiles so much I look at cars with the old fashion rubber with absolute envy. -
