  • Golf IV service - idiot questions 14 Oct 2003 (Forum)
if there is anything I should ask to be looked at specifically: - Brakes: The brakes are making a rubbing noise recently. Are the pads up for a change? Or the discs? - Are there any other major shocks I should expect - e.g. timing belt change. Thanks for reading, DF
  • Fiesta 1.25 coolant return pipe 31 Aug 2003 (Forum)
well it felt like it was breaking up. Are the ford hoses cheap carp or are they off pritty good quality? Is there a known problem with this pipe braking after five years? Has anyone ever changed one? If you have is it a pain to do? Last one now, should this pipe be braking up like it is. I don\'t plan
  • MOT Questions 4 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I have just learned that my Primera has failed its MOT for 2 reasons. Firstly, one of the front tyres has a cut. They were replaced about 1 year/10k miles ago. Can anyone tell me how deep/wide a cut has to be before it is an MOT failure? Secondly, I was told that one of the brake lines
  • Peugeot 205 cuts out when cold 22 Apr 2003 (Forum)
SWMBO's Peugeot 205 XL, 1124 cc (H reg) fires up instantly in all weathers but always needs the choke for a few miles. Choke or not, when cold it has a frustrating habit of instantly dying stone dead when downing the clutch and braking for whatever reason. At first I was (chauvinistically
  • More local fun 21 Dec 2002 (Forum)
This is what we have to endure... From the Johannesburg Sunday Times: A bus with bald tyres, no brakes, no licence disc, a twisted chassis and a pick-up's numberplates passed through a traffic control centre and several roving roadblocks on a 1 150km trip across South Africa. It dodged numerous
  • LED Lighting eg Range Rover 5 Oct 2002 (Forum)
lights I noticed, great. One thing I didn't like though was that the amber indicator LED's appeared to be in a single layer ring around the brake lights. Fine when just indicators on, but when braking and indicating not quite so visible. Anyone else noticed this effect or was it just me?
  • Being overtaken - responsibilities? 3 Oct 2002 (Forum)
, and realising that he was not going to get past, I had been in two minds as between braking to let him get past, or maintaining my speed so that he could slip in behind. If I had braked, he would have gone straight into the lorry. As it happened, I made the right decision, ie to do nothing, but either way
  • changing gears 25 Oct 2001 (Forum)
through the gears since i find it gives better control over braking, but can this put adverse stress on the 'box too? Am I better off using just the brakes? My driving instructor taught me to not go through the gears - but he said that in days of old they did used to teach students to go through

Pebble dash. I live at the end of a non-asphalted road and at least once a year have the same problem with a small stone lodging between the brake disc and back plate. I have found that by driving the car a short distance in reverse the stone is sometimes thrown out.
  • 1 Jun 2019 (Forum)
I wish HJ would stop banging on about left-foot braking, amongst other things. By his logic, manual car drivers must be lethal yet we never hear of such a case. It is just a case of old people driving automatics who should not be driving.

  • any - Obstructions on hills 10 Dec 2012 (Forum)
If there is an obstruction on a steep hill, the convention is that the vehicle coming uphill has priority, irrespective of which side of the road the obstruction is on. Does the same rule apply to trucks? Which is the bigger problem for HGVs-brake fade or clutch wear?
  • MoT Data for Perth 5 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Agree. A good car should have a secure interior and exterior. This is not just about the vehicle wrapping perth but also how safe you are on the road. The percentage of brakes failure is alarming. It is good to know that officials are doing
