  • Smart Car Drivers 9 Dec 2007 (Forum)
it is either White Van Man or a Smart driver. To be kind, I suspect it is because they are small and nimble and can dart into places better than a lumbering people carrier or whatever. I always get the impression that if a Smart driver braked hard enough, the thing could somersault.

  • Pedestrian not dipping his lights! 30 Oct 2007 (Forum)
and could easily have braked hard and lost it in the split second I had to make a decision. Why he /they /she did this I don't know as there was no reason for it at all. Just shows you have to be on the ball all the time for the unexpected.
  • MGV - ABS now legal requirement? 30 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Since when did it become a legal obligation for any medium goods vehicle used to take a category C1 driving test to have ABS? Apparently I can't take the test in our lorry because it doesn't have ABS. Questions: 1. How do you implement ABS on an air-driven braking system, or are small lorries
  • Rover 200 sidelights will not go off 28 Apr 2007 (Forum)
. This seems to have started happening just after I replaced a blown fuse for my rear brake and reverse lights, although this may be coincidence. Does anybody know how I fix this problem? Thanks
  • Renault Megane 04 electrical problems 5 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Hi, I have a Renault Megane (2004) 1.5 dci and I have had 4 lightbulbs go in the last month - 2 headlight bulbs, one sidelight bulb and one brake light. I have also had 5 different indicator bulbs since I bought the car in 2005. I suspect that it's not just coincidence that these bulbs have all
  • Vauxhall parts rip off 9 Jan 2007 (Forum)

  • 01 Focus rear wheel bearing gone at 50k 6 Jan 2007 (Forum)
SWMBO's 01 1.6 Focus was making a speed-related noise from the NS rear, that stayed when the brakes were applied. Jacked it up and noticed straight away that the wheel had far too much wobble on it. The rim has no damage, so I'm wondering why a bearing should go at a fairly young age/mileage
  • VW Polo 03 reg 1.2 13 Nov 2006 (Forum)
the MOT date was missed. Car has FSH (including brakes service), clean HPI and full AA inspection. Anything in particular to look for. Is the 1.2 too small for this car? It will be used for mainly urban work.
  • 406 HDI clutch? judder 10 Oct 2006 (Forum)
The car is a 2.0l HDI 406 diesel with 160k on the clock reg 2001. I'm getting clutch judder when starting off, needs about 2000 rpm to eliminate it. Also when accelerating/braking the gear lever moves but not out of gear. I'm assuming that this is probably worn engine mounts rather than
  • Ignoring red lights 4 Sep 2006 (Forum)
ignored? If that habit is going to spread, what next? And what is it about the A41? Having reported the item "Motoring masterclass" last week, yesterday a Hotpoint van pulled out on me, such that I have to brake sharpish, then pulled in again only to turn off within a couple of hundred metres.
  • how to wind back calipers - 199 Audi A4 22 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Hi Everyone, I'm hoping someone can help me out, I'm in the missle of fitting new brake pads to the rear of a 99 audi A4. Im having real problems getting the caliper pistion to go back in. It seems to be stuck (I'm pretty sure its not seized as the piston will move back out from the pedal
  • wheel bearing - Fiat Coupe (W reg) 18 Jun 2006 (Forum)
My car has recently started to make a "howling" noise which starts off at about 25/30mph.I have checked all the usuals like clutch in,gearbox in neutral, brakes on/off with no discernible difference. My own suspicion is that the n/s front wheel bearing is on the way out as there seems to be a slight
  • Xantia 1.9TD Lower hub ball joints 4 Apr 2006 (Forum)
How easy are these to replace? I have a clonk from the nearside when I go over a bump. Closer inspection reveals play in this joint, even when rocked by hand under load (To clarify, it's the one on the bottom of the great big casting that fixes to the suspension leg and holds the brake caliper.)I
  • Form over function? 22 Jan 2006 (Forum)
than their real purpose. There was bright sunshine on the back of the cars and from anything other than directly behind, the lights were difficult to see. I've noticed before on new Passats that at night, the brake lights drown out the indicators. Anyone else noticed? Chris M
  • Dash lights - '93 405 14 Aug 2005 (Forum)

  • Merc cruise control 20 May 2005 (Forum)
Driving to an MB dealer 20miles away to have the brake fluid changed (half the price of my local one) I noticed cruise control wouldn't work on the motorway - or indeed above 55mph. I asked the dealer to check it over and they said this was due to the wrong tyres being fitted (205 55's on 16 inch
  • Peugeot 406 rear wheel bearing 6 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Just visited by local Pug agent to get a set of rear wheel bearings (drum brake) for my 1999 406 diesel estate . I was told that you can't change the bearings but you have to replace the complete hub at circa £130 + vat. Is this right?? As a Technician I fail to see why these bearings can't
  • Mazda 2 1.4 Auto Shift Changedown 2 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Just bought a Mazda 2 1.4 Capella with Auto Shift transmission. Car great and box seems fine. Just wondered if anybody had found the same as me ie in Auto mode the changedown from 2nd to 1st as you brake (ie stopping at lights) can be felt ever so slightly through the break pedal (ie I'm aware
  • Low or High Mileage? 24 Aug 2004 (Forum)
generally always rather have the low mileage car. The interior, the tyres, the brakes and generally most wear and tyre items (bar the exhaust/cat) usually seem to be in far better nick on a low mileage car. Which means less immediate expense.
