  • Van rental for use in Europe 28 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Hi, Has anyone got any recommendations for a van rental company which allows travel to continental Europe? I have a trip to Southern France coming up which I really need a van for and don't really want to go to all the trouble of buying and selling one. Any suggestions welcome, Thanks.
  • Golf Headlight beam deflector templates 7 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Can anyone suggest an online website where I can find the outline to make up a headlamp beam deflector(s) for a VW Golf Mk4 - for driving in France. Unlike certain other manufacturers there is no template in the handbook. I know all I need is some black tape in the right place.
  • Cheap cross-channel fares 31 Jul 2005 (Forum)
There was a recent thread regarding the viability of having cars serviced in France - obviously the fare cost would have to be factored-in. I'm doing the trip in reverse, and checking prices note that Eurotunnel do a short stay/overnight return fare of £30 (42 euros). Are there any better deals
  • Worcester to Dover 22 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Off to France in a couple of weeks via Dover. On checking the AA route planner it mentions major works on the M25 after junction 1a. Can someone in the know tell me what the M25 is like at the moment.Should I expect major delays. I'm also undecided whether to go via the M40 or down the M5 to the M4
  • Opel or Vauxhall 15 Dec 2003 (Forum)
We are looking at getting a Corsa 1.7DTi as our main car. On the continent, all Vauxhalls are badged Opels. What are the differnces between the Opel and Vauxhall Corsa? Is it just the badges or are there differences to the engines, ECUs etc? I am worried that if we break down in France
  • Cheap engine oil 26 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Thought people might like to know that I was at Carrefour (big hypermarket) in Nice (S. France) last week and picked up their special offer of 7 litres of fully synthetic 5W50 oil for petrol or diesel engines, costing 22.25 euros (= £15.50 approx.). You may like to check to see if this is available
  • Fog Light lenses 2 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Why do manufacturers fit nice shatterproof plastic headlights these days, and then fit foglights below the bumper with glass lenses? Both my 406 and Citroen C3 have now suffered from broken foglights. Next time I pop over to France for a tank of cheap diesel I will go to the dealers and get some
  • Speeding offences 10 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I live in France and my car is registered here. I was stopped on a motorway on 29th May 2011 and asked for my details. I received two notices which I signed as being the driver even though I stated that the speeding offences were on the 18th March and I could not be sure I was the driver. The GM
  • Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - Gazole - Yes or No? 17 May 2008 (Forum)
This is my first post for quite some time now (years!), and it?s a question that I?ve asked before but I?m still unclear about the answer. On my past trips to France I stuck to using branded diesel (Shell V-Power & BP Ultimate) because I was unsure if I was able to use Gazole, the opinon from
  • I Have A Question - Volume 185 30 May 2007 (Forum)
Thinking of going over to France for 7 days sometime during the first 2 weeks in July (Scottish school holidays). I have been on various websites, chez-nous etc but can anyone recommend either a villa type place, or even a static caravan maybe within 2-3 hours max of the Channel Tunnel? Preferably
  • Navman iCN 510 or a Tom Tom? 29 May 2005 (Forum)
I have a friend who is asking for advice and is about to buy SatNav, having looked at Tom Tom and the 510, on paper. He travels mostly in the UK (retired) with a few holidays in France. He likes the idea of post codes, roads at street level and voice prompts and the fact that the 510 has a storage
  • classic car insurance abroad 6 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I'm not sure if this counts as a technical query, but it's certainly giving me grief... I live in France and I am trying to buy a classic car in the UK to bring over here. Importing it doesn't appear to be a problem but I want to insure it the way I insured my old cars in the UK, ie
  • Citroen HDI Oil 30 May 2003 (Forum)
Can anyone out there give me a sensible answer to a simple question? Citroen UK and France have both been less than helpful with their answers. I have a 2002 XSARA 110bhp HDI SX. My handbook says that I must use Total Quartz 9000 (or equivalent). It does also list Quartz 7000, but says
  • electronic tags for euro motorways 5 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Having used the liber-t tag in France and realising the time and effort it saves at the peage I am now tempted to get a tag for Spain and Portugal. Has anyone used this tag yet? If so any comments from personal experience would be welcomed. I am getting the ferry to Bilbao quite soon

  • None. - French police sabotage speed cameras. 22 Nov 2012 (Forum)
Drivers and now the police over here in France are fed-up with the blatant profiteering and revenue raising by the government with their radars. €700,000,000 last year.  http://www.wat.tv/video/exclusivite-automoto-radars-5ccjr_2flv9_.html I wonder if UK plod would
  • Ford Ka/Golf Mk1V - E10 fuel 19 Aug 2012 (Forum)
I live in France and E10 fuel is now being sold everywhere at a cheaper price that normal 95 octane.  Is there a website which explains which cars are compatible as the only one I can find is an Australian version saying that you cannot use E10 in a Ford Ka or Focus.  I think
  • French Signs 3 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I was recently driving in France and entered a tunnel, some matrix signs, lit up with a red circle on a black background with a ₡ symbol. Can any of the knowledgeable folk here tell me what it is (though I suspect it?s an impending fine). (The signs were just like those ones that tell you
  • How to get a Telepéage for French M-way 21 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Somebody kindly sent me this link - you too can avoid the queues on French motorways for the princely sum of a ?30 outlay, plus ?2 per month when it is used. Debited directly to your bank account, apparently. http://www.totalfrance.com/france/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2036&highlight=telepeage
  • About to drive through Europe... 22 Jun 2005 (Forum)
and a really daft question occurs to me: How obvious are the speed limit signs in various European countries? Taking my own as an example, the motorways do not have a 70 sign on them. If the same is true in France, Belgium, Germany, etc. how am I supposed to know what speed I am allowed to do?
