Meguilar's - any observations 5 Nov 2003 (Forum)
This, the Gold version polish, sells in my local store for the equiv of £8.67 for about 300 ml vs good old-fashioned Turtle Wax which runs £2.47 equiv for the same amount. Both are US imported. The former claims to be the duck's guts but it's only wax after all and very expensive. I'm wondering -
Polo 1.4 or 1.9 18 Oct 2003 (Forum)
One of our cars, a 16 year old VW Polo is coming to the end of its life. We need a replacement and like another Polo. This time we want a diesel but don't know whether the 1.4 TDi or the 1.9 TDi should be bought - secondhand. I fancy the extra performance of the 1.9 but am worried about extra -
Private Reg Query 13 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I am selling my car which has a private plate. Obviously I will remove this and (hopefully) replace it with the original reg as I still have the old no plates. Could anyone advise me of the cost to do this through the DVLA and if any/what forms need to be filled in. I would normally try and find -
Primera aircon 18 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Recently, I have experienced water dripping from one of the air vents (in the passenger\'s floorwell) in my Primera, while the aircon is working. Also, the aircon has lost much of its efficiency. Whereas 6 months ago it was icy cold, now it is barely cooler than the ambient air. The car is 6 years -
Subaru Legacy - Owner Experience 8 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Just read HJ CBC Breakdown on this model and, in theory, seems quite a good bet as a used 3 year old buy. The 4WD and low range would be useful for occasional towing plus estate car practicality. Do any of the BR community own one, or know of one, and if so what has their experience been. I'm -

Hi all, I have a vauxhall vectra hatchback. 97 (P) reg. As i am thinking of sticking a set of alloy wheels on the car, i would like to know if it's possible to change the drum brakes to disc brakes. Is it just a matter of takeing of the old & putting on the new. Or does it have 2B a complete axle -
Diesel fuel additives 12 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I am taking delivery soon of a Skoda Octavia with the 130bhp tdi pd diesel engine fitted. I have used Millers Diesel Power Plus for many years in my 11 year old Passat. Skoda discourage use of fuel additives on the basis that engines are designed with modern fuels in mind. I would be grateful -
Merc C Class spec 25 May 2003 (Forum)
Recently been looking around at used Merc C Class. Spotted a nice example - 99V C180 Elegance 5 spd tip auto with low miles. Imagine my surprise when making further enquiries to discover it had no air con. I'm amazed they were turning these cars out at 25k new in 1999 without a/c. Worse still -
Ford Escort 1.3 Endura-E Oil 12 May 2003 (Forum)
I am a little confused as to which oil to use in my Ford Escort 1.3 Endura (1997). Handbook with car says 5/30 ford spec oil as does Haynes Manual, however Halfords application sheet gives oil as 10/40. As this is basically an old design engine I would of thought 10/40 or 15/40 would be the oil -
Legal underage driving 21 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Am I right in thinking that driving off the highway does not require a licience? i.e. someone under 17 could drive in a private field legally. If that is right, does it follow that for a private field, read large empty supermarket car park. Of course there are public liability issues because -
Alloy Wheels - Pitting 26 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Apologies for my ignorance on this issue but can anyone describe what is meant by alloy wheels pitting and what does it look like? I have an 18 month old car and on the surface of one of the front wheel rims there is a discoloured mark about the size of a 10p piece (I had assumed -

sticking with fully synthetic oil. 23 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I have a 2 year old Mercedes A140. Main dealer has always used a fully synthetic oil (Esso Ultron). New dealer offers a choice of Mobil Super S (Semi) or Mobil 1 (fully) IIUI Mobil Super S (semi) is the MB recommended oil, but Mobil 1 is also approved for use. As the car has always used fully -
Lucas electrics 25 Jun 2002 (Forum)
I just spent half a weekend struggling to persuade a Lucas dynamo charging system to do what it was designed to do. While looking for information on the control box, I came across this, which should amuse anyone who has ever owned an old Landie or British Leyland car: http://www.landroverclub.net -
Seat Leon 1.6 Fuel 8 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Picked up my new (8 month old) Seat Leon 1.6 this week and filled it up for the first time this morning. The inside of the petrol cap says use 98RON super plus unleaded. I thought this was only necessary in seriously high performance engines? The car has been running great on the normal unleaded -
New MINI 3 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Picked up the girlfriends new MINI Cooper on Saturday. It's fab! Even worth paying a months tax for just 2 days use....... Its a very nice piece of kit and everyone is stopping outside our house to have a look! Lovely to drive - feels like a much bigger car on the motorway and yet like -
7 seats but dont like MPVs 1 Apr 2001 (Forum)
I'm looking for a car with 7 seats for family running around and the occaisional longer trip, but dont like big MPVs as they seem a bit van like. I've got about £8-12k to spend and it has to be an automatic. My thoughts to date: Vauxhall Zafira, Peugeot 406 estate, maybe an old Mercedes E-class -
It's muscle car time again 28 Oct 2005 (Forum)
was clearly a lover's demand too far; the sight of those beautiful features puckering pointedly finally wore me down. She reckoned the car had been through the hands of college students in its life and that was what accounted for the odoriferous bit. (I didn't feel I could ask how she made the student -
Battery Reliability 27 Aug 2024 (Forum)
considerably. I did a straw poll amongst friends and nobody has had to replace a duff battery recently; some cars over 8 years old still have their original batteries fitted. As far as I am aware battery technology has not changed so why the dramatic improvement in reliability? Or has reliability not improved? -
Toyota Yaris 1.3 - Auto gearbox intermittent no drive 31 Jan 2022 (Forum)
My daughter in laws 22 year old Yaris has developed a fault with the auto gearbox. On one occasion the car failed to select reverse, then forward and after three attempts she switched the engine off a few times and eventually she was able to get drive. Having a baby in the back
