An untrustworthy car for driving and parking - a regrettable purchase

This was possibly the worst car I have ever owned for various reasons.

The main reason was I couldn't trust the car - in driving or parking. I could not trust it to safely manoeuver around a roundabout without somehow slowing down and not being able to accelerate it when I needed to. I dreaded every roundabout and every turn left or right - as I feared the car would slow down just as I am trying to accelerate. Thankfully it was the pandemic so I barely drove it.

Parking was a nightmare - the previous volvo (V40) had great parking sensors - this one would only make a beep when I was 20cm away. It had zero recognition of things on the corner of the car. I could no longer rely on the sensors when parking. In the first couple of weeks I nearly hit the car about ten times while parking.

Immediately the brand new car felt like a ten year old car - like an old engine spluttering along - so I returned the car four days after buying it and the dealership refused to take it back - they 'tested' it and claimed there was nothing wrong with the car or its sensors. I took it back twice for the parking sensors and they said the tests all came back normal.

It was also subject to THREE recalls in the first four months - all to do with the software updates.

I very wrongly assumed that buying a new car meant at least the first service being included - but no, they charged me in full and they returned the car with the seats pulled so far back, I was never ever able to return them forward enough, so the last few months of owning it - were very uncomfortable driving. That was the moment I said - never a Volvo again.

There are some positives - the heated steering wheel and seats and the remote start from my phone during winter. The boot was a great size. There was one huge positive as it kept its value well so I was able to change the car after 20 months and had 4k equity in it as a deposit for a far better car - a japanese brand. No more Volvo thank you.
