Volvo V50 (2004 - 2012)
1.8 SE 5dr Estate
The stupidest car I've ever had
I wanted to like this car so much, but traded it in after just 3 months.
It's really a handsome car, quite one of the most good looking estate cars around. Build quality was top notch, really impressive finish, with a high quality ibterior - so far so good.
But it all falls apart when you actually have to drive it. With the possible exception of a Proton I once owned, this car had the worst ride I've ever experienced in a car, jittery and nervous, crashing over every ripple and pothole - utterly appalling. Given that it was based on the Focus, supposedly a good driving car, what on earth were they thinking of? And no, it wasn't a sporty version either, just a basic 1.8.
Ah yes, and that was the other problem. It couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding, meaning you had to thrash it everywhere, meaning the fuel consumption was ridiculous.
But I would have put up with that were it not for the ride - what a stupid car. Why on earth did they think the family man wants his filling rattled every time a wheel passes over a fallen leaf?
So I traded it after 3 months at considerable loss, but it was worth it because I was sick of it.
I won't have another Volvo again. i****s.
