Volvo V50 (2004 - 2012)
2.0 D SE Sport 5dr Estate
Just about worth it.
Good looking estate (or the trendier 'sportswagon') nothing like as enormous as traditional Volvos it could be said that one disappointment is that the boot area is not very big!
With the seat up and cover in place there is a similar amount of space as in my previous Vectra hatchback. Obviously with the seat down the space does increase considerably.
Performance is good, smooth acceleration in all gears, fairly quiet and generally feels quite solid. Mpg is pretty good, topping 50 on a long run, i'm averaging around 49 overall, although in urban conditions you may only get 46 -47.
Only problem was with an air-con leak -fixed under warranty -but only at the second attempt. Whether it's a problem with Volvo or not I've had 3 punctures in 3 yrs (after about 1 in 20 yrs) -all 'slow', so not dangerous, just irritating and costly.
Instruments etc are OK, climate control is good, seat adjustment is good -probably the most confortable car I've ever had. Niggles: trim tends to come off a bit easily: door storage limited; don't care for the 'floating' console with storage behind -it's just inconvenient. Took me ages to put the jack back (Tip: read the instructions!)
In conclusion I am glad I bought it -despite my fears that it is fairly expensive compared with the competition. Will I get another? -I just might.
