Overall reliability

Much better car than I thought it would be

Having previously enjoyed three hard years with a Ford C-Max I went looking for something a little more up market and better quality but with the same chassis and excellent 2.0Tdci engine. Didn't like the new Mondeo (too wide on these rural roads) so ended up with the Volvo V50. Not the most roomy car but built with great precison and solidity. It took to about 10,000 miles for the engine to loosen up and now at 32,000 miles it really can fly. It's very torquey and evenly spread with no sudden burst of power (unlike a Golf 150 Tdi I once had). Economy wise it remains a car that you have to concentrate driving to wring good mpg. Usual running averages around 40-42 mpg with normal driving. It can get closer to 50 mpg on the motorway if you keep the revs down and change up early. Overall its an excellent and very stylish car that provides a contrast to the usual BMWs and Audis. I note that they are becoming quite popular around here among younger people who want to be a bit diffrent - especially in sport/r guise. Finally its been ultra reliable and not one single thing has gone wrong - quite a record for me!
