Sumptuous
Had a rush of blood to the head and replaced a nearly new top of the range Skoda Superb with a BMW X3. Loved the six cylinder engine and elevated driving position, but the ride was poor and the interior was a throwback to the 1980's. Rough plasticky trim and a squeak from the armrest which drove me mad. Lost a filling every time you drove on anything less than a smooth road surface.
Fast forward one month and I am now the proud owner of a Touareg. Ideally wanted an R-Line, but they were £2k more expensive, so I bought an SE with the lower powered engine. Delighted with the car. Ride quality and interior are streets ahead of the X3. Burr walnut looks "real" (it may be) and the aluminium milled dials are great. Cream leather seats are comfortable and luxurious. The best leather I have seen this side of a Range Rover. The lower powered engine is more than adequate. Tap the gearstick into sports mode and it takes off like a scalded cat! If you buy a car like this, fuel consumption is not your number one priority, but I'm getting around 35mpg in mixed driving. On a long journey with a light foot, 40mpg is a possibility.
