A real hidden gem of a car that just keeps growing on me.
Art the beginning of this year I got my hear set on a 5 series M sport touring so being impetuous I bought one and whilst it's not a "Bad" car it's certainly not what it's hyped up to be. It wasn't very quick and the fuel economy was pitiful compared to what was quoted. So I looked for something different and my partner wanted a bigger, higher up car so I looked around and kept coming back to the Touareg. I've had VW's before and whilst they're not exciting they are very well made.
I got my Touareg from an auction, bought by a dealer friend of mine and after a wash and polish it came up like new so I was well pleased, plus it still had 3 months warranty on it so I felt secure knowing it would be fixed by VW.
The first thing you notice about the car is that's a big brute of a thing, very well put together and the engine and gearbox are excellent, in fact I think this is the best auto box I have driven it's certainly leagues ahead of the BMW which never seems to predict the right gear for you.
Inside it's a simple easy to use spacious cabin, the seats are as snug as a Recaro but without the need for a skinny backside! The instruments are simple and the Sat Nav stereo is amazing, why can't all cars have an easy to use system like this it has everything and even plays DVD's when stationary.
But it's the driving that you buy a car for and this doesn't disappoint, it will go like a stabbed rat if you want it to, especially if you put it into "S" quite honestly it's as fast as it needs to be for a car this big. My only criticism's, well the suspension is a bit harsh over bumps and ruts and the economy takes a battering round the town but on the open road it has returned 40 mpg but that is driving it very steadily. My other big plus is the depreciation, I reckon this car only lost £13k in 3 years form new so it must be a safe buy. Would I buy another definitely, although I would probably go for an R line.
