A potential deathtrap with current exhaust gas management software
In August 2015 car broke down with exhaust gas management system failure. This just stops the car in its tracks and results in no power and no power steering. Car will not start.
Car went to VX dealer who simply removed the error code and said car was OK. Also did engine management software upgrade.
One month later the same fault stopped the vehicle again. Car currently at same agents. They will not fit any new parts, sensors etc. and very unhelpful and unsympathetic. Very poor service.
Phoned VX to complain about car and service. After long conversation told that car needs a software update to solve this problem. This is not the one recently applied, but one that is not yet written as the problem is very complex. VX have no idea when the software update will be available. In the interim I am expected to drive the car (fault codes deleted) in the hope that it keeps going.
Do VX not understand that the car could stop dead at any point with absolutely no warning, leaving it with no power and no steering. This could happen in the fast lane of a motorway - imagine the potential consequences of that! The car could become a potential death trap in that event as the power dies instantly as the engine thinks it has overheated.
I have refused to drive the car until the software is available and applied and showed to be effective - no idea when this will be. the car is currently at the dealers and there it will stay. I have asked VX for an alternative replacement vehicle in the interim, but no response so far.
At the moment I cannot recommend this vehicle to anyone on the grounds of safety. I cannot in any circumstance risk driving my 3 young grandchildren or for that matter anyone in it in its current state.
It appears that the VX dealers do not know about this nebulous awaited software update for the exhaust gas management system or are not admitting to it.
It is interesting that the recovery services man stated at my latest breakdown, that this was the second such fault he had attended with a Zafira Tourer in two days.
Needless to say that in these days of technological advances where VX have no cure for this issue which has considerable safety implications, I am extremely unhappy and deeply concerned for the safety of any driver or passenger.
VX need to sort this with absolute urgency. I currently have no faith in the vehicle nor of the dealers current ability to solve the problem.
