Vauxhall Meriva (2010 - 2017)
Exclusiv 1.7 CDTi 16v 110 Auto 5dr MPV
comfortable driving position, economical fuel consumpsion
Bought mainly for my wife who requires an automatic gearbox due to arthritis and a slightly raised driving position. This vehicle had a very low mileage when purchased due to being ex motability and even now at six years of age has only covered 21,000 miles
.Driving is comfortable with good fuel economy .The side pillars do make overtaking difficult due their width which cause a large blindspot.
The main problem with this vehicle despite its low milage and regular servicing has been reliability.
The rear boot lock which failed, then more recently the glowplug relay failed which required a new relay and set of glowplugs. My most recent and dangerous failure was complete loss of power steering whilst my wife was driving in traffic. As she is arthritic she was unable to turn the steering wheel at all, with the resulting traffic chaos.
The resultant bill for recovery and a new pump and motor was over £1000.
As a result of this my wife is now frightened to drive the vehicle.
This is disappointing as on the surface this appears to be a well thought out and practical car let sown by its mechanical failings
