Vauxhall Astra (2015 - 2022)
1.4 SRi
Ok as a car but oh so dull.
I had this car for a few weeks as a rental car whilst my other car was being repaired for accident damage. The car supplied was only 800 miles old and was a 1.4 non-turbo.
Firstly the good bits.
Feels quite well made inside, rides well and fuel economy is very good.
Decent room inside the cabin.
Now for the bad bits.
This engine option is underpowered. It can be borderline dangerous in certain circumstances such as overtaking or joining motorways, especially when you have more than just the driver on board. If you come up behind a 40mph everywhere driver on a NSL single carriageway road you can forget overtaking unless you are very brave and have plenty of room.
Steering and suspension give no road feel whatsoever. If you are a keen driver you will not like it.
A rattle has started already from inside the dashboard.
Auto lights (Which cannot be de-activated) turn off and on when you don't want them to.
Automatic collison warning often bleeps and flashes lights at you for no reason.
Boot is very small and shallow compared to other cars in its class. It is too small for two suitcases for example, where as on my Alfa Giulietta they would fit no problem with room to spare.
I have been averaging 38mpg in mixed driving, which for a low powered car with a small engine isn't very impressive.
Not a bad car as such, but I am sure there's much better out there. I certainly wouldn't buy this car with my own money. It will get you from A to B but won't dish up much excitement on the way.
