Toyota Yaris (2006 - 2011)
Yaris 1.33 TR 5DR MMT
A big car in a small package
We've now covered 10k trouble free miles in our Yaris:
The Good: Firstly, MMT transmission - ours is the latest system (6 speed with "flappy paddles" behind the steering wheel). Whilst no torque converter or CVT auto, this is smoother than previous versions (we had an Aygo MMT before), can actually be quite fun when using the paddles and to my mind is still infinitely preferable to changing gear manually whilst having no negative impact on performance or fuel economy. The new 1.33 engine seems ideally suited to the car, being refined and giving good performance with plenty of low down power. The tall 6th gear also means very refined motorway progress. Toyota must also have worked on the cars ride - bump absorption is first rate giving a ride quality equivalent to a much bigger car. We test drove the top of the range Jazz before buying, and found it to be very noisy on the motorway, with a very hard ride, and underpowered (1.4) engine.
The bad: The MMT transmission can sometimes "hunt" between 1st and 2nd gear at low speeds in traffic, and gives a slight jerk when changing into 1st. That's it so far........
