Toyota Prius (2016 - 2022)
2018 TOYOTA PRIUS PHEV VVTI EXCEL HATCHBACK CVT
Brilliant, very economical, quiet and relaxing to drive.
After a year of use I have found that on petrol alone when the battery is used up the car is returning close on 80mpg, that's in the Peak District. On the motorway not living in the outside lane to often is does at least 70mpg. I last filled the tank 3 months ago and have done near 400 miles and the petrol gauge has yet to move. I get around 33 miles per charge, 27 in the midst of winter.
I have found the car very comfortable to drive, quiet and relaxing. However the original tyres Toyo Proxies were awful, loud, harsh ride and very little grip wet or dry. I changed them to Goodyear Vector 4Seasons, now these inspire confidence in all conditions, not too bad in mud either. In a bout of bad weather early this year driving to Buxton on the A53 near Bradside, they coped on driven snow on ice where several other drivers floundered.
The dashboard display takes some getting used to but once you realise what is useful it's great. Lack of a 5th seat is disappointing, now addressed by the latest model, but the luggage space in the boot is minimum to say the least, but the seats fold flat to cope with big loads. The lower front corners of the car need watching on uneven car parks as they are close to the ground, but if you do catch them the scuffs remain largely hidden underneath. The infotainment has no Apple or Android car play, not really an issue unless you live on the internet as the navigation works well if a little slow, but it plays music very nicely. The button lights around the infotainment don't dim with the dashboard lights so they look like a Wurlitzer on a dark road in the middle of the dash.Matrix headlights are the best I have had, much better than standard LED or HID. Safety Sense package is first class everything works as it should. My only complaints with the car are the automatic rain sensing wipers that have a mind of their own. Light drizzle, fast wipe, heavy rain I'll think about that ! Turn them off and back on and they work closer to what you would expect. The seats are comfortable and plenty of legroom, plenty of cubby holes. On the whole I have been very pleased, I don't plan to change the car for some time unlike several other cars that I owned for some very short periods.
