Toyota Corolla (2019 on)
2.0 GR Sport
Very refined, comfy and surprisingly sporty Hybrid.
I have had my 2.0 GR for 4 months now and im loving every minute of my first hybrid.
Viewed from an eco minded focus I am very impressed. My previous car was a Mazda 3 in 2.0l 165 sport nav which was good on fuel however the difference between it and the Toyota in mpg is stark.
My GR manages low./mid 50's mpg pretty much wherever I go whereas the only time my Mazda came close is motorway driving where it can average high 40's (saw a best of 50mpg).
The tradeoff for the 2.0 spec is a powertrain that whilst not on hot hatch levels it's plenty, its surprisingly quick off the mark and is very quick to pick up and accelerate on the move and is responsive to the throttle, the chassis is well balanced and I can happily enjoy a weekend drive out in it as the handling and road holding is very good. Beware though going for a blast or having a heavy right foot will result in the mpg taking a nosedive (Guilty).
Refinement is excellent too, as is the ride quality. Its eerily quiet at times especially around town and the ride soaks up all bar the very worst of UK Roads. The ease of use of the car is another very strong attribute, its just a supper easy, relaxing and quiet car to drive, even more so if you use the cruise control around town.
The interior is excellent all round, dont have any complaints and the seats especially in GR trim look amazing and are so comfy.
Its not perfect mind I do have a few niggles with it:
- No auto locking function on the car when you get out, little bit of a pain to remember to lock it each time (have on occasion left it unlocked forgetting about it, force of habit when your last 3 cars all auto lock).
- Boot space, its small, like size of my old Mazda 2 small because of the batteries in the boot for the 2.0 spec. But its just about big enough for a small family and big enough for the weekly shop/week holiday away.
- The Parking Assist, it tries but more often than not it fails. So Parking manually is the order of the day which if you didnt have that nice reversing cam (all specs do) would be a nightmare due to naff rear visibility.
