Toyota Aygo (2014 - 2022)
1.0 VVT-i X-Play 5dr Hatchback
A disaster on wheels
From day one this car has been a problem. When I went to pick it up from the main dealer it had been dented and the spare key had been lost. Within the first week a warning light had appeared. It took the main Toyota dealer 6 weeks to remedy these simple faults. It was also clear that the PDI had never been done - according to the form the sat nav had been updated and the sunroof checked; my car has neither of these features! There was food down the side of one of the seats, the parcel shelf was broken and the boot floor was collapsed into the well where the spare wheel on higher spec models would sit.
Since then the car has developed a major fault where it hesitates pulling away, and loses power at high speed. This is frightening as a driver and also seriously dangerous. The car has been in twice for the fault. On the first occasion I was told nothing was wrong, but on the second occasion after speaking to the site manager they admitted that this is a well known and documented fault which is caused by the valves in the engine being seated wrong.
However, whilst fixing the valves the dealer has told me the clutch needs replacing (at my own expense). The car has less than 30k on the clock and is only 2 and a half years old!
Toyota UK have ignored my emails, the dealer have offered nothing by means of an apology or solution. At present I am driving their courtesy car as we are arguing over who pays for the clutch, seeing as I've only done 4000 miles in the car!
I would deter anyone from buying either an aygo or any car sold by the Birmingham main dealer.
