Toyota Avensis (2003 - 2009)
T4 D4D
Excellent workhorse
I bought this car secondhand from a dealer when trading in my older basic spec avensis. I was looking out for something with the right engine and decent spec. Here in Ireland we generally get the most basic models. This was imported in 2011. It’s brilliant all around provided you service it when it’s due max every 13k - One issue that has become clear this past year is the rust! The rear axel & wishbones suffer with it. Boot is huge, works each & every time I need it & the cruise control is great on longer journeys. One thing about the D4D is that you need to drive them. It’s not really a city only car unless you want a clogged up EGR. I bought it with 160M on the clock. It now has 230M with no issues. It’s not fast but it definitely has grunt when needed. My SAT nav never worked but I don’t need it anyhow. Another service item that’s often overlooked is the fuel filter. It’s easy to change & should be done. I have noticed a fair bit of clunking & creaking from the suspension at certain points. It’s 15 years old & the Irish Roads are pretty c*** & don’t help. It’s a heavy car but the 126bhp definitely copes getting it around. It’s a nosey diesel. Safety reliability cruise control & decent mpg were my main attraction to the car. It does all of that without issue. I’ll be sad to let it go when the time comes. I don’t believe in buying new cars. If you look after it, it should keep going. That’s been my Toyota Experience over 20 Years.
