Skoda Superb Estate (2015 - 2024)
2.0TDI 150ps SCR Laurin+Klement 4X4 5dr Estate
Stunningly brilliant family car
My last car was an old Freelander so changing into an estate was a bit of change in driving position etc. My list of wants for a new car were that it needed 4X4 (living in the Czech Republic), big boot (young family + 2 dogs) and reliable enough for the next 12 years. Running costs and servicing were also considered. I did look at a BMW 3 with X drive and also Audi A6 Avant but these would have been too prohibitive in the long term as regards to parts and servicing. Volkswagen Passat was also much more expensive with less of the kit available on-board, an almost identical car in many respects. Toureg, Mitsubishi PHEV, and Subaru were also crossed off the list
Driving is a dream, gear changing is a bliss. It took some time to get used to all the kit on-board but as my first trip was from Reading to Prague, I had plenty of time to fiddle. A very comfortable car over a long distance, the miles just disappear. Very easy to drive but deceptively so, such a large car in town needs a bit more care. Fuel economy is nowhere near the claimed figures (more like 45mpg) but much better than my old Landie, saving a minimum of 50% on fuel with a drastic reduction in emissions.
Family love the car and I am no longer getting kicked in the back from little monsters. I have yet to be able to fill the boot, simply cavernous. No need for a roof rack yet, it even comes with a ski hole in the rear seats, mine also has an integral tow hook which will be invaluable for later trips.
If you want to buy a family car which offers good value for money plus versatility then I would suggest you give this some serious consideration.
My only gripe would be with the authorised dealer. The car came with a minimum of ad-blue, pure water in the screen wash, no first aid kit, no warning triangle. The car when bought was 6 months old so came supplied with these when new.
