Skoda Fabia Estate (2015 - 2022)
1.2 TSI 90ps SE 5dr Estate
Possibly the best small estate currently available.
Now had it for a full year and still very happy except for a couple of minor niggles. What are they? 1. Seats could be more comfortable. 2. I wish the dam air conditioning would not switch on of it's own accord - I want to make the decision. Anyway the last time I had a small estate was like years ago Ford Escort 1300 which was about the same size and I loved it before it began to rust away as all Fords did in those days. Of course the performance of the modern Skoda exceeds the old Ford in every respect. I particularly enjoy the sense of the turbo cutting in when accelerating in second and third gear. No it's not a boy racer and I had half a mind to go for the 110 but then though why bother at my age? That turbo gives a quite interesting fuel economy by the way. I rarely do more than local shopping and relative visits these days but had to do a 15 mile trip last week, just over half of it being dual carriageway. By the time I got there, it had managed 63 mpg! Yes it runs on unleaded rather than diesel but I deliberately chose that because my kind of driving would soon make and expensive wreck of a DPF.Of course the Road Tax is only £20 which is another feature dear to may heart. For the practically minded the fact that it has a wacking great boot and a long flat roof (to carry ladders and wood back from the local Wickes), also endears it to me. It also looks like a car rather than the current silly fashion for making a car look somewhat like a frog or a hippopotamus. Right at the moment I cannot think of any other car that I would buy except the Roomster which they have sadly stopped making or the Octavia Estate which is larger than I need.
