SEAT Toledo (2012 - 2018)
SE 1.4 TSI 122 DSG 5dr Auto Hatchback
A solidly-built, spacious and modern but understated family machine - good value
Yes, I know it's been panned by snobby motoring journalists, but there's little wrong with the new Toledo. Of course it's not hugely exciting, but it does what it's supposed to very nicely. I like the clean, modern, understated looks. The car is solidly built in true Germanic style, and as it's taken from the VW/Audi parts bin, everything feels sound. The cabin can look a little cheap lower down, but there are nicer trim materials further up, and it's smart, clean and simple. In top of the range SE spec, this car makes sense: you get everything you actually care about, but no gimmicks that you probably don't. The SEAT media system is excellent and provides a wealth of modern functionality, including a perfectly decent satnav, DAB radio and lots more. The space in the back seats is great, and the enormous boot is a boon to families - in fact that was the main reason we bought the car. It swallows a huge amount of stuff without problems. On the road, the car is reassuring, refined and feels solid. It's no sports car, but the 1.4 TSI engine is excellent, and the smooth DSG auto is refined, slick and easy to live with. Overall, it makes a great all-round family car that looks tidily compact but offers great space. It's the first brand new car we've ever owned, and we're very happy with it after 3 months. There are no problems to report, and no annoying design niggles - which is a rare thing in my experience.
