Overall reliability

Excellent, economical spacious motor.

I bought this DSG version of the Leon ST Estate after having a 2015 manual 1.2 petrol version but suffering ankle problems at the end of 2017 which made a manual gearbox difficult to operate. I liked the Leon ST 1.2 manual but found it less than ideal in some respects, in terms of comfort and ride, especially in comparison with my previous diesel manual Altea XL. The 2017 DSG 1.0 Ecomotive Leon ST has a much more comfortable ride than the 2015 manual Leon ST. The front seats are much more comfortable. Having driven something over 1000 miles in it since buying it, some of it in London, most of it on a journey from London to Edinburgh and back. I find it generally a very appealing car. The 1.0 3-cylinder TSI engine is amply powerful in town and on the motorway, with two adults in the car plus sometimes a full load of luggage. Fuel economy on short runs in town has generally been well over 30 mpg. On motorways it has approached and in some cases exceeded 60 mpg. I have mostly been using super unleaded as recommended (sticking to Shell so far). So far I have had no problems with the DSG, though I habitually switch off the automatic engine stop as I find it irritating and it causes problems at roundabouts and junctions.
