Was I overcharged for repairs?

In early December 2024 I had a fair amount of work done to my 2012 Ford Mondeo Estate2.0 TDCi - track control arm, suspension arm bolt kit rear bolts/washer/nut, rear subframe bushes, rear stabiliser link LH/RH, napa suspension arm L/R, geometry check including front toe adjustment rear toe adjustment and 2 new rear tyres.

A couple of days ago I was advised I needed 2 new rear coil springs, this work/job was then done, but again - without asking, a geometry check including front toe adjustment rear toe adjustment was done and added to this horrendous bill of £460. They have have used Napa springs which I know are £50 a pair to the public.

My question is, I am fairly certain that this geometry adjustment did not need doing and I know I've now been ripped off relating to the massive bill. What do I do?

Changing the rear springs may have required an alignment check depending on the arrangement of the suspension and which components were disassembled in order to fit them, but as no work was carried out on the front suspension a front alignment should not have been necessary. When having work carried out you can request a quote which includes all tasks that will be carried out and their cost, and if any additional work is required this should be done with your permission. We would suggest contacting the garage either by phone or by letter stating that you are unhappy with the cost of the work and asking for a full breakdown of the costs if this was not provided at the time.
