SEAT Ibiza (2008 - 2017)
1.2TSi 5dr itech
Must be the best option if choosing an Ibiza
We swapped my wife's pre face lift 61reg 1.4 16v for this model after much nagging from me about how much better the 1.2TSi engine is. Everything about this car is superior to the previous model [except the heater controls], the old 1.4, 86bhp car being slug like compared to the TSi with its 105bhp and superior torque. This car is an excellent drive, and with its well bolstered seats, which come with the itech spec, is also very comfortable on a long drive. No longer do we have to wind up the engine to around 4000rpm in anticipation of an overtaking move, just put the right foot down and go! The result of the better performance results in better fuel consumption as well, the old model usually managing around 42/43mpg, but usually around 50+ with the 1.2 turbo engine. One can also sing along to favourite Pink Floyd tracks in this car thanks to a decent 6 speaker sound system instead of the r****** 4 tinny speakers in the front only of the previous car. There are one or two minor gripes as SEAT seem to have been penny pinching as usual. The heater controls are rather basic and not as good as in the old car, whilst the lighting system is laughable, the car coming with the optional 'comfort pack' which includes automatic lights. However, SEAT have wired up the lights so that the headlights are on all the time as running lights, thus making the automatic lights facility redundant. Minor gripes apart, this is a fine little car, and on a recent run of 200mls back from a ferry port on busy 'A' roads and motorways it still managed 48mpg being fully loaded and driven quite hard.
