difficult

Bought this because I needed easy entry, 50,000 m £1500 and in really good condition everything works as it should car drove like a dream except for a slight hang in changing from 2 to 3 ,I know a bit about auto transmission having done some in the past so then researched the trans unit oh dear on the face of it sealed for life ,dealer only problems include defective pressure control valves,£500 minimum and electrical problems that can cause limp mode /lockout,the unit suffers from lack of cooling causing the fluid condition sensor to trigger limp /lock out ,regardless of what anybody says these units have to have FULLY SYNTHETIC FLUID
Our modus does not have a drain plug for the trans it only has a level plug ,

This leads to debris from the friction clutches and the steels pumping the debris around the system causing damage to valvebody components, bearings, bushings bands ect,any automat transmission maker/repairer will tell you to change the fluid after 30,000 MILES as this stops premature wear.

Rear discs can be expensive as you have to have new bearings and ABS rings, as they are a throw away item when you have to change the discs.

Taking of the front of the car to change the headlight bulbs is Renault dealer thing they made a million with that one but you can do it your self.

Like all Renaults they suffer from electrical problems but a spray with a can of spray wax onto every connector plug and fuse unit will keep the electrics OK apart from all of the above and not forgetting probs with electric windows/petrol flap/and tailgate its a nice drive and comfortable in the front ,it has lots of cubby holes and storage our engine is as sweet as a but.

If you get a Renault built in Spain you will have build quality problems ,as a concept its a great idea ,practice however is another thing !!
