Fun to drive, impossible to live with

The Diesel engine in this car will just pull and pull, however the electrics are impossible. Everything in this car is done through the electric/computerised system, a method which was in its infancy when this car was launched. If a single connector of any of the thousands in the car (all difficult to find and access) then that's it for a part of the car until it decides to work again - I had intermittent weeks without access to the boot, headlamps that would fail on startup on use and then work the next, a speedo that would conk out whilst driving - leaving me to estimate speed based on the rev-meter. But it wasn't all doom and gloom, the engine on its own was a great unit; powerful despite only being 1.5 litres, and it provided fantastic fuel economy with an average of 54mpg and a personal high of 69mpg on a clear motorway run
