Practical but mediocre and troublesome

I had always been a Peugeot fan since purchasing a 1992 205 1.9gti in 2002. Further Peugeots followed, including a 205 van, two 5 door 205s and three 306’s. I loved them all. Then I bought a new 107 in 2006. Mollycoddled it for 4 years, and sold it with 1,200 miles on the clock. Only issue was the rather notchy gearbox.

So, I had high expectations for a 2012 5008 with two previous owners and 60k on the clock bought in 2019. However the more I drove it the more disappointing it became. Electrical, clutch, gearbox and mechanical woes. My local garage had enough of it and tried to fob me off, without success, to other garages 30 miles away. The main attribute is the huge van like space when the rear seats are all down. The car is comfortable enough. The fuel economy was impressive. The bodywork was very good for its age. Yet the car just lacked vitality. Dull and uninteresting. After 43k miles of tedium and wearisome anticipation of further things going wrong, the final nail in the coffin of the poor 5008 was a catastrophic clutch and gearbox failure in October 2022. My local garage wanted nothing more to do with it and offered to trailer it to another garage 30 miles away for repair. Having had enough and anticipating a massive bill I had it taken away for nothing by a local sc*** dealer.

If I ever have another Peugeot it will be either be a 205 or a 306.
