The Wafter

This was a hire car provided to me while my BMW was being repaired.
What a lovely car! The surprising thing is that the despite it's near gargantuan size is how nimble it feels. This model had the 258 hp engine and 7 speed automatic gearbox. Power is ample and is delivered in a linear fashion with imperceptible gear shifts. It feels eager and sprightly belying it's size. The steering is light as a feather. The ride on air suspension is soft and comfortable even on our battered roads and on motorways there is no other word to describe it; it just wafts along. I found it easier to park than my 5 series with aid of the reversing camera and 10 inch infotainment screen.
The fit and finish is as you would expect very good and there is a surprising large boot, which I found useful.
The standard leather finish on the seats was not so impressive. I thought the perforated finish looked cheap. That said the seats provided lots of adjustment. I particularly liked how it's possible to extend the seat cushion providing more support for your thighs and legs. I didn't like the seat backs which were too hard and didn't seem to fit my back, so it never felt that the top of my back was supported.
The fuel computer on motorway trips showed 50 mpg, which is nothing of amazing for a car of this size.
In summary, I had this car for a couple of weeks and was sorry to see it go. It's very good although the seats didn't seem to suit my back. That said it's absolute must to at least drive one, to see how quiet cars can be and how soft the ride can be.
