Totally and utterly brilliant. I hope I never have to buy another car.

Well I have taken delivery of it.

E class SE 300 hybrid estate and about 10k of "bit
surprised I thought this was a good idea" extras.

I did spend 3 month agonising, especially late at night
after I ordered it. After all there was not much wrong
with my 15 year old VW van.

But I have not agonised once since I picked it up. Its
amazing and a technological leap forward. It's crazy that
all cars are not made like this. Every time I brake I re
charge my battery and I drive along in traffic without the
engine. Its great fun trying to be as economical as
possible some of the time. I set cruise control to 56 mph for about an hour
and got 65mpg. I get 49ish MPG on my 12 mile journey to
the station. I drove a golf VR6 for 158k miles, and on
paper this is about the same performance if you want it to
be. With the battery and the engine is goes from 40 to 70
quite fast enough. Best car I could have bought. S class
Jaguar BMW 730 Range rover perhaps quieter but so much
more greedy on several levels.

I went for the sound insulating glass and I dont know
if it is the glass but the car is very quiet. It is a
black estate and already bit muddy and dirty so perhaps does
not look too pretentious parked outside the house in the
street next to the pub. Electric seats are great, back
massage a bit of a gimmick, but fun. Panoramic sunroof is
epic. It keeps beeping at me and I can't find out why, but
I expect I will when I read the manual.

What a car. If it works for 14 years, I will be
impressed....
