Mercedes-Benz B-Class (2005 - 2012)
B200 CDi
Great Car, But quite a few problems.
On 55, 06, 56 & 07, check the sealant where the door and boot skin wrap around the door frame. If it looks like a weld (Ie Lumpy) it will be very rusty. Mercedes changed the process to a smooth sealant in about 07. I fought mercedes with their 30 year warranty, and got the to put 5 new doors on my 06 model at 4 years old.
Springs commonly break, as on many other cars, but on the B the suspension has to be setup at mercedes, as its a specialist jig / tool job, and no one else can do it, even if they say they can. Otherwise your tyres will wear badly and it will drive horribly. I also had a number of CV boots done.
Glow plugs go, as the review says, and most garages won't do the job, in case they snap on removal, so take it to mercedes, as if they snap them its down to them to remove and repair the cylinder head.
Serpentine belt £20, but if the adjuster needs changing its a nightmare job £500-£700 for basically a fan belt!
Clutch started to go on mine at 110,000, another expensive job.
I'm not sure if its common, but my headlight bulbs never lasted long, and they are quite difficult to change.
For all its faults though, its is a very comfy spacious car, over 40k miles I got about 45mpg, but sitting at 60mph on the motorway, I could get over 70mpg. Its also fairly quick.
